The Huskies forced the Ducks into some sloppy play, gather ing 27 offensive rebounds (they had 43 total to Oregon’s 34), snatching 15 steals and forcing 23 turnovers. Heiny blamed those stats on poor decisions and the lack of practice, which was nil this week because of freezing temperatures at Mac Court. “We had a lot of mental lapses tonight. Hail we practiced more, we might have been sharper." he said. The Ducks countered their mistakes by shooting a sizzling til percent from the field. And during a night in which center Stefanie Kasperski was held to just eight points. Oregon, led by Gabi Neumann's 17 points, had four players in double figures. Oregon hit the Huskies so fast they were reeling, jumping out to an 11-2 lead in just four minutes. Meanwhile, they ticked off seven straight points to cut the margin to nine. Freshman Jacquie Semeniuk came in to ignite tin; Ducks fast break a little. Her three straight assists, resulting in lay-ins by Sheila Sattiewhite and Kris Glidden and a jumper by Drouet, pushed the lead back up to 15. Washington had outscored Oregon 23-8 the final six minutes to pull out the last meeting between these two teams, so a Husky comeback was not out of the question. And although Kasperski had a frustrating night in the scoring column, Heiny thought her 6-foot-7 frame was felt.and her seven blocked shots reflected that. "Her presence on defense plays a big role for us." he said of the center who blocked seven shots. "You don't see many shots inside when she's in there." Heiny added. The Ducks now look ahead to Washington State University Saturday night for their last Mac Court appearance of the season, unless they are selected to host an NCAA tournament game.
