Streetwise ASUO shuttle service evokes varied opinions from students By Linda Kahn IN Ih* Knwruld The ASUO recently proposed •tartlng a shuttle system specifically for the protection of women walking at night. Many aspects of the program are in the planning stages, hut two quea tions about it were pondered by nine University students last week: Should the service Ih? of fered only to women, and should the drivers of the buses only be women ? Other concerns included ade quate screening of drivers, duplicity of systems with Cam? pus Security and whether the system would be used solely as transportation rather than protection, Becky Dodge, undeclared, said the system should tie just for women but is not certain about the question of drivers. *‘A male driver might pose a threat, but if it's a paying job, it's not fair to exclude men.’’ she said.
