Little s show highlighted by Price’s opener It wus an odd Juxtaposition of •cenea. Friday night, while athletes dressed In sweats wandered down the dim. nar row corridors of McArthur Court toward cool showers, a seasoned crew of technicians perspired under the hot, bright lights of h wide stage surround ed by a huge velvet curtain. Occasionally, athletes would wander into the stage area wide eyed. as if their pupils could not take in alt the commotion at once. Hut when Suzanne law Price ti>ok the stage lo rehearse with her band The Oopple Brothers, ail eyes were directed toward "the little girl with the big voice.” The excitement mounted as the time drew nearer when Oregon's own "Suzanne Lee Price Show” would be opening for Rich Little, Suzanne's fami ly sal twlow the stage engrossed in watching her; seemingly unaware of all that was going on around them. ”1 don't know much about setting up Ihe stage or anything like that I'm just worried about one little girl.'.' said Suzanne's father Shelby Price, who handles his 14-year-old daughter's career. Having their daughter sing at McArthur Court was exciting not only because she was chosen to open for Rich Little, hut sho also was taking the stage at their old alma mater. "Coming back to your old alma mater brings back a lot of memories." said Shelby Price, who received his doctorate in By Sheila Landry Photos by Ross Martin education, curriculum and in struction at the University in 1969. He also worked as assis tant director of administration from 1967-70 and worked as a freshman coach under ten Casanova. Oregon’s "winn ingest football coach." Suzanne's mother, Lou Ann Price, also worked at the University as a business instruc tor from 1960-62 "Eugene is such a special place for us." I stay out of it.” Suzanne seems in perfect control as the minutes roll by to showtime "I’m ready for it." she said confidently. Although unaccustomed to the star treat ment received by an act playing for Rich Little Productions, her manner was as humble as her mother’s. "This is much better than changing in the back seat of a truck like I've had to for some shows.” Suzanne said with a laugh. Although Rich Little is the biggest headliner she has ever opened for, tension seems non existent among Suzanne, her family and her band prior to the show. When the entourage first met Little, however, it was dif ficult trying to keep from being slightly awed. Because Little has been such a familiar face on the television screen forso many years, “you kind of have a tendency toward wanting to stare at him for awhile until you get used to the fact that he's a real person like yourself," said Jeff Patterson, drummer for The Copple Brother’s Band. “Rich Little Productions has been so fantastic to us," added Ixju Ann. "And after meeting the man himself, you know why they are so great.
