"A Muse for Heroes: Nine Centuries of the Epic in France,” documents the development of the epic poem in Prance and was selected for recognition along with other outstanding books published in 1984. Calin. 49. has been a Univer sity faculty member since 1973. He previously taught at Dart mouth College and Stanford University. A Guggenheim fellow in 1963-64, Calin currently is working with a Fulbright research grant and studying at Cambridge University in England. Senate update The University Senate elected new officers for the 1985-86 school year and welcomed new members at its meeting May 29. Ken Ramsing, graduate pro grams director, will take over as Senate president; Doug Green, a Student Senate member, will be vice president; and Tom Calmus, associate finance pro fessor, will be the Senate's secretary. . The motion, scheduled for a June 5 vote by the Assembly, would give the Senate "a more viable role in the discussion of legislation," said Kappy Eaton, Senate president. "It’s one of those ideas whose time comes perenially," Eaton said. Dick Hill. University provost, also addressed the Senate, reporting what "may be good news’ ’ from the state Legislature, which is currently discussing the budget for the State System of Higher Education. “it’s not going to be Christmas time, but it may be at least subsistence time," Hill said He reported that salary im provements for faculty members are still possible, although the, money for library renovation was vetoed.
