1 sports__ _ Duck golf team finishes fourth In the Portland State Invita tional, the Oregon golf team finished in fourth place with its “second squad” Monday at the Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland, Wash. Oregon shot a 618 total in the weather-shortened tournament that was decreased from the originally scheduled 54 holes to 36 because of snow on the Rip pling River Golf Course. Boise State won the tourna ment with 600 stroke-total. BSU was followed by Portland State University (608), Oregon State University (611) and Oregon. The Ducks finished ahead of the i eight NCAA Division II schools participating in the event. The Ducks’ top golfer was Croy Cochran, who shot a 142 total for two days. Cochran also took medalist honors over Dan ny Moore of Boise State Univer sity (144). Cochran, a freshman from Kent, Wash., shot a one-under 70 on the final day of play. Sports Shorts The University of Idaho gave the Oregon men's ten nis team a rough time Sun day as the Vandals whipped the Ducks. 7-2 at the Pacific Northwest Tennis Cham pionships in Seattle Sunday. Oregon’s Dave Smith and Chris Brilhantewere the only Ducks victorious against the Vandals. Smith defeatd Guillermo Alvarea, 6-2, 6-4. Brilhante took care of Nate Jones in a tight contest, 7-6, 7-6, but Oregon lost the re maining four singles mat ches and three doubles encounters. The Ducks go back into ac tion against Linfield College today at 3 in McMinnville. Bill Nugent, a former All American at Oregon, won the 149.5-pound champion ship at the U.S.A. National Open Freestyle Tournament last weekend in Lock Haven, Pa. Nugent defeated 1984 Olympic bronze medalist Jim Martinez, 6-5, to win the ti tle. Nugent was voted the Oustanding Wrestler Award for his efforts. Oregon freshman wrestler Glenn Jarrett finished in fifth in the National Espiors Freestyle Championships also in Lock Haven. Jarrett. the 1985 Pacific-10 Conference 126-pound champion, whipped Jeff Gib bons of Iowa State at 136.5 pounds in the 20 and under division. Blazers hope to corral Mavericks PORTLAND (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers would seem to have things going their way as they return home for their next two National Basket ball Association playoff games against the Dallas Mavericks. Portland has won 11 in a row — and 17 of its last 18 games — in the friendly environment of Memorial Coliseum. But Blazer coach Jack Ramsay says his team is in trouble if it takes the home games Tuesday and Thursday nights for granted. “Dallas is a very good road team," Ramsay says. “At the end of the season, they were better on the road than they were at home. If we assume we have an advantage here, we could be in real trouble.” The Blazers and Mavericks each won wild contests in Dallas, squaring the best-of-five first-round series at one game apiece. ATTENTION The proposed replacement for Section 6.10 of measure No. 5, which was omit ted from the April 17th Voters Guide, should read as follows: The ASUO recommended incidental fee assess ment for each of the following: (1) com bined ASUO and EMU programs, and (2) the Athletic Department, shall not exceed a 7% increase over the previous year’s student incidental fee assessment, unless individually approv ed by an initiative or referendum held under Section 12 of this Constitution. Despite the method through which the special election is called, the proponent shall specify the exact amounts in both percentage and dollars by which the 7% assessment limitation will be exceeded. 3esides Cochran, the Ducks eceived some sub-par perfor nances. Steve Krieger had Oregon's next lowest score of 158. Oregon’s first team was not at he tournament.
