Author to discuss
child abuse book
The University Bookstore will close National
Children’s Book Week on Saturday with a talk by
a celebrated local author on the subject of child
abuse. Marcia Morgan will discuss her book “My
Feelings” with children between 3 and 8 years
old and their parents.
The presentation will be held from 11 a.m. to
noon, and is part of the Children’s Saturday
Celebrations at the bookstore, a community
outreach for children, says Francie McGeough,
childrens’-books buyer.
Morgan’s talk is the fifth event of the series.
An hour of magic, mask-making for Halloween, a
Winnie the Pooh celebration and a Beatrix Potter
day have filled previous Saturday celebrations.
Though the Bookstore will be closed the
Saturday after Thanksgiving, the series will
resume the following Saturday with a greeting
card making day, and end for the season Dec. 8
with a “Nutcracker” reading hour.
Children and their parents are invited back
winter term, when the series will begin again.
Weaver to speak
on campus today
Oregon Democratic Congressman Jim
Weaver will visit campus today to address a
University class titled ‘‘War in the Nuclear
Age” at 1:30 p.m. in Room 142 Straub.
Weaver will take questions and
answers from students and will discuss pre
sent conditions facing the United States.
Class instructor Joe Austin has invited
all interested students to attend and take
part in what he says should be an in
teresting and informative session.
Weaver represents Oregon’s 4th Con
gressional District, which includes Lane
and Douglas counties. He is labeled a
maverick by some critics because of his
strong support of issues such as the en
vironment and the nuclear freeze.
In the Nov. 6 election, Weaver defend
ed his five-term service against Republican
challenger Bruce Long, a Douglas County
commissioner.
