The sources, who spoke on condition that they not be iden tified for security reasons, said the land mines had been located close to towns and roads leading from Puerto Cabezas to the border town of Waspan some 60 miles away. They said the action was aim ed at Nicaraguan troops operating in the area, which is in North Zelaya province in nor theastern Nicaragua. The mining of Nicaraguan ports, approved by Pres. Arabs hijack Israeli bus ISRAELI-OCCUPIED GAZA STRIP (AP) — Arab guerrillas armed with grenades hijacked a bus carrying about 40 Israelis and sped toward the Egyptian border, but Israeli soldiers shot out the tires, stormed aboard early Friday and rescued the hostages, a military spokesman reported. A military communique said six of the bus passengers were wounded, but made no mention of casualties among the hi jackers or soldiers. Sources said earlier that two hijackers were killed. The communique said bomb experts were searching the bus for explosives. Sources and witnesses reported that Israeli soldiers pursuing the bus shot out the tires and punctured the fuel tank, then surrounded the im mobilized vehicle. They said several people were wounded and others were held hostage on the bus by three or four armed guerrillas. The hijackers seized the bus at about 7:30 p.m. after it had left Ashdod on its run from Tel Aviv to the Mediterranean port of Ashkelon. Fire from the troops stopped the bus, which seats 42 people and left Tel Aviv nearly full, near the Palestinian refugee camp of Dir el Balah, 10 miles north of the Egyptian border, Israeli sources said. $9.50/511.50/$ 13.50 For phone orders on VISA or MasterCard call: 687*5000 Tickets Available At All Hult Center Outlets. Israeli reporters on the scene and other sources said the bus was parked on a side road near .the Dir el Balah camp, between Rafah and Gaza City, about 50 miles south of Tel Aviv in the territory captured from Egypt in the 1967 Middle East war. Military sources said the Arabs apparently boarded the bus as paying passengers, then pulled weapons and forced the driver to take it to the border. The daily newspaper Haaretz reported that the driver and eight of more than 40 passengers escaped and a preg nant woman was freed by the terrorists. Liquor tax increased WASHINGTON — The Senate voted Thursday to raise the tax on liquor by $2 a gallon to help in the battle against government deficits. By a 76-15 vote, the Senate re jected an amendment by Sen. Wendell Ford, D-Ky., that would have eliminated the higher li quor tax from a catchall tax in crease bill written by the Senate Finance Committee. Ford would have made up the lost money — about $1.36 billion over three years — by eliminating the new tax incentives Pres. Ronald Reagan has proposed for luring businesses into blighted areas. Ford said boosting the $10.50-a-gallon liquor taxes would destroy jobs in the in dustry and is unfair because wine and beer taxes would not be affected. A bill passed by the FHouse on Wednesday includes an increase of $3.75 a gallon on liquor. Your CHOICES make the difference.
