This one is S-E-R-l-Q-U-S!" Hypes Look, I know you folks operate under a deadline. And I know most of your staff is pretty young. Mistakes can occur. But when you insult rock'n'roll, it's going too far. I must protest. In your Dec, 2 article on Juice Newton your reviewer tells us that this over-promoted singer of marginal talent produced a better version of “Angel in the Morn ing,” than did Marianne Faithful, the erstwhile consort of Mick Jag ger and a few dozen other rock heavies of the 1960s. Aw, come on guys, take the Sony Walkman plugs out of your ears. To begin with, you got the song title wrong. It's “Angel of the Morning." Any true student of rock'n'roll would know that. So meone who knows the music would also recognize Juice Newton is pure hype. A somewhat nice voice, sure. But mostly she is the commercialized product of a million dollar promotion budget designed to influence pubescent adolescents like college newspaper reporters. Marianne Faithful was real. When she sang, it was from ex perience. That's what made her music great. A Juice Newton remake has as much soul as a Pat Boone collection of the greatest hits of the Beatles. Admit it, most of you folks were into Sesame Street when rock'n'roll was king. Now you're trying to make up for lost ex perience by praising lukewarm remakes of the greats. Leave rock reviews alone and stick to something you understand. David Morrissey No support Rolf Sjogren's letter does not support his point that the media is biased against gays. I find it gives them too much credit. If I am bias ed, cite some examples. For example, the big thing with gays is "coming out of the closet." But his letter speaks of a tendancy "to legislate or moralize against gays assumes the right to control the private lives..." Perhaps there is reason not to legislate or moralize, but privacy is not it when they are coming out of their closets in hordes. We are asked to make the same commitment to cure a disease (AIDS) in perverted adults that we made to cure one in innocent children (polio). Does an adult who has chosen particular lifestyle with its dangers merit the same consideration as a child who did not choose his condition? A Christian definition of gay is one "who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." (Rom. 1:32) A Christian worshiping God for his deliverance from sin cannot share the same pleasure with one enjoying it. Worship is shared joy, and that shared joy cannot exist between a Christian and a queer. Hitler killed the Jews for the sake of the "master race."
