Show brings fashion forward
"Nights on Broadway,"a fashion
show presented at the Hult’s Silva
Concert Hall last Thursday night,
was more than a flashy showcase
for the latest and most chic in
designer styles.
The audience was awestruck as
a stageful of male and female
models broke out in one thrilling
song and dance performance after
another.
Kaufman's, The Active 20/T0
Auxiliary and the Hult Center for
the Performing Arts should be
commended for their ingenuity in
transposing a fashion show into a
fine arts concert, effectively
enhancing the sleek and
outrageous styles.

The show followed a line-up of a
dozen or so humorous sketches
on a stage vividly lit and decorated
with delicate trees. Coordinator

as to borrow a young lion from
Winston's World Wildlife Safari to
complement one skit, as well as
using an enormous motorcycle in
another.
The cast's energy was limitless
throughout the entire show,
which featured special jazz, ballet
and modern dance routines and
martial arts styles.
The singing by various per
formers was nothing short of
superb. Model Anice Hall totally
captivated the crowd during her
number, proving that grace and
beauty were not her only assets.
The fashions, provided by Kauf
man's, included creations from Liz
Claiborne, Calvin Klein, Norma
Kamali, Ralph Lauren and other
top designers.
Garments presented ranged
from pin-striped suiting to sequin
ed taffeta evening wear, and even
slippery satin nightgowns worn
under mink robing.
The colors were dramatic —
solids in fuschia and scarlet, and
"buffalo checks" in black and
white.
Styling was both fluid and
sophisticated, as was shown in the
longer, fuller skirts and narrowly
tailored slacks. The jackets were
oversized and box-like, the
blouses elegantly draped. Bright
ly colored boots and hats added a
finishing touch to many outfits.
All in all, "Nights on Broadway,"
Eugene's toast to fashion, was an
excellent production set in the
finest of atmospheres.

Thursday, included song, dance, a fog machine and the latest word in
clothes.
