In fashion ft Show brings fashion forward "Nights on Broadway,"a fashion show presented at the Hult’s Silva Concert Hall last Thursday night, was more than a flashy showcase for the latest and most chic in designer styles. The audience was awestruck as a stageful of male and female models broke out in one thrilling song and dance performance after another. Kaufman's, The Active 20/T0 Auxiliary and the Hult Center for the Performing Arts should be commended for their ingenuity in transposing a fashion show into a fine arts concert, effectively enhancing the sleek and outrageous styles. .. i in hi rnmnumr nr - r • nr i mz - M < The show followed a line-up of a dozen or so humorous sketches on a stage vividly lit and decorated with delicate trees. Coordinator Mary Jane Stuck even went so far Story by Julie Shippen Photos by Dave Kao as to borrow a young lion from Winston's World Wildlife Safari to complement one skit, as well as using an enormous motorcycle in another. The cast's energy was limitless throughout the entire show, which featured special jazz, ballet and modern dance routines and martial arts styles. The singing by various per formers was nothing short of superb. Model Anice Hall totally captivated the crowd during her number, proving that grace and beauty were not her only assets. The fashions, provided by Kauf man's, included creations from Liz Claiborne, Calvin Klein, Norma Kamali, Ralph Lauren and other top designers. Garments presented ranged from pin-striped suiting to sequin ed taffeta evening wear, and even slippery satin nightgowns worn under mink robing. The colors were dramatic — solids in fuschia and scarlet, and "buffalo checks" in black and white. Styling was both fluid and sophisticated, as was shown in the longer, fuller skirts and narrowly tailored slacks. The jackets were oversized and box-like, the blouses elegantly draped. Bright ly colored boots and hats added a finishing touch to many outfits. All in all, "Nights on Broadway," Eugene's toast to fashion, was an excellent production set in the finest of atmospheres.
