The Homcoming Kick-Off Suprise isn't
mom's favorite casserole. It's a seven-foot
tall egg that was a suprise until somebody
cracked the code. Since communications
were scrambled, the running yolk now is
about what's inside the egg. All of Eugene
awaits the revelation of the egg and its
contents at 9:00 a.m. today at Autzen
Stadium.
Speaking of mom's favorite casserole,
the Valley River Inn is hosting today's
noon 1983 Homecoming Luncheon at $5 a
pop. Rich Brooks will give away some of
his game plans for Saturday, the 1983 am
bassadors will be announced and Len
Cassanova, the 1983 Homecoming Parade
grand marshall, will be on hand. Later
tonight, students get their shot at meal
time festivities. Spaghetti Feeds will
abound in the dorms, co-ops and the EMU
(that one will be a Creek function). Make
sure you're at your Halloweenie best.
For the fashion conscious the Bon
Marche and Eugene merchants will pre
sent the first annual Tailgate Preview Tues
day at noon in the Hult Center. This is a
must for those who aren't quite sure what
to wear or what to eat while sitting next
to the keg at tailgate parties.
A Tug-of-War,
sponsored by Miller
beer (they’ll even br
ing the beer) has
been tied to the
homecoming
schedule Wednesday
at 3 p.m. on the IM
fields near Hayward
Field. The traditional Painting of the "O"
follow at Skinner's Butte Park.

The first indoor tailgater gets under way
Thursday at the Red Lion Inn in Spr
ingfield. The Indoor Tailgate Party as it is
so aptly named, will feature dinner, enter
tainment and (gasp) a raffle. Be there at
5:30 p.m. or be left out in the cold to do
your tailgating.
More drinking and merriment ensues Fri
day at 4 p.m. at the EMU during Beer
Garden. Don't miss this pre-function for
the Town and Gown Light Parade, Pep Rally
and Laser Light Show at 6:30. The first an
nual parade marks the official start of
Home Coming Weekend. It starts on cam
pus and ends downtown on the corner of
Broadway and Willamette Streets where a
Pep Rally will be held with Rich Brooks and
the Duck football team there to rally pep. A
gigantic cake of the university campus will
be served and a laser light show will be
presented. After all of that, for those who
can tolerate a whole night of merriment,
Curtis Salgado and In Yo' Face will perform
a free concert.
A big before-the-Bruins bash, the Pre
game Party and Tailgate Awards, will start
game-day Saturday off at 10:30 a.m. in the
Autzen Stadium parking lot. A tent will be
set up for alumni and friends who wish to
swill beer, wine or soda; chow down a
few dogs; or just hook up with that long
lost classmate from 19 aught six.
Before the before-the-Bruins bash,
homecomers can run rampant through
the campus at the Fun Run, 9 a.m. at
Hayward Field.Other sporting events
during the week include the Emerald
Valley Golf Tourney, 12:30 p.m. Friday, or
the Emerald Valley Tennis Tourney, same
day, same time, same bat channel. Both
will be held in Creswell.
Sunday marks the first annual
Homecoming Sunday Brunch, 10:30 a.m. at
the Hilton Hotel. Cost is $8 for such
breakfast fare as prune juice on ice and
Baron of Beef.
Once the prune juice gets you moving
there are several Sunday-things-to-do. Hult
Center Tours begin at 11:30 a.m. and 12:15
p.m. Guess where the tours meet. At 2p.m.
there will be a Homecoming Alumni Lecture
for those of you who didn't drink
prune juice. Actually John Nance will pre
sent the fascinating story of a peaceful
Phillipines Stone-Age people discovered
only 13 years ago.
