EPA, DEQ set hazardous waste hearing July 18 Oregon residents have until July 18 to comment on the issuing of a joint license for the temporary on-site storage of hazardous wastes to the Hewlett-Packard Company. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Oregon Department of En vironmental Quality propose to issue the license'to the Corvallis facility, which manufactures hand-held calculators, small computers, integrated circuits and thermal printheads. The proposed license would allow col lection and storage of hazardous waste generated on-site until shipment to a licensed disposal site. The purpose of the 45 day public com ment period, required by law, is to guage significant public interest in holding a public hearing. The EPA and the DEQ reserve the right to cancel the public hearing if suffi cient public interest in holding a hearing is not communicated to the EPA or DEQ by July 18. Persons wishing to comment on the issue should send written statements to the Oregon Department of Environmen tal Quality, Hazardous Waste Operations.
