Photo by Bob Baker Free measles shots at health center In a response to several reported cases ol measles in Oregon the Student Health Center is offering students free measles vaccinations through March 11 The vaccinations are given during regular center hours, according to Ellen Hansen, nursing director No appoint ment is necessary for the shots The health center is open from 8 am to 4 p m Monday through Friday Hansen says any registered student may receive a shot of the hard measles vaccine Peo ple with allergies to eggs or chicken should tell the doctor before taking the shot, Hansen adds Six cases of measles have been reported in the state so far, including one in Eugene, according to the Oregon State Health Division The other five cases were traced to Oregon State University "Hard'' or "7-day" measles is a highly contagious disease which can cause middle ear infections, pneumonia or ence phalitis (inflammation of the brain), according to the health division Symptoms include a fever of at least 101 degrees, watery eyes, cough and a red splotchy rash that begins on the face and spreads to other parts of the body Anyone who thinks they may have the disease should contact the health center immediately, says Hansen Lorraine Duncan, a spokes man for the division's immuni zation unit, says many college students may not be vaccina, id for measles because child immunation laws were passed only recently She says students should check their health records or ask their parents to find out whether they were vaccinated If students think they have had the measles, Duncan says they should have been officially diagnosed by a doctor "They may have had a mother or grandmother who told them they had measles, but it could have been something ebe " KWAX launches funding drive KWAX-FM kicks off its "Rite of Spring" fund-raising drive today The radio station, which broadcasts from Villard Hall, has a goal of raising more than $25,000 and gaining 1,000 new or renewing donators The sta tion receives about three quarters of its funding from state and federal sources The spring event is important because projections indicate public funds will decrease steadily, according to station representatives The Incidental Fee Committee cut its subsidy of the radio station from $1,800 to $1,650 for next year © 5^°JIS Student Special Tuesday and Wednesday Evenings With purchase of a Dinner for Two You will receive a complementary Liter of House Wine (offer vuhil with Htutitw!
