White leads NFC to bowl win HONOLULU (AP) — Dallas quarterback Danny White, who sat on the sidelines with an injury as the Cowboys lost the National Foot ball Conference title game this season, threw an 11-yard scoring pass to Green Bay wide receiver John Jefferson with 35 seconds re maining to give the NFC a 20-19 victory over the American Conference Sunday in the Pro Bowl. Washington’s Mark Moseley, who earlier had missed three field goals and had another blocked, made the extra point to give the NFC the deciding margin. White, who completed 14 of 26 passes for 162 yards, kept the winning, 65-yard drive alive when he connected with Jefferson on a fourth and-7 play at the AFC 25. Jefferson made a div ing, fingertip catch to give the NFC a first down at the AFC's 11. The NFC victory overshadowed a Pro Bowl record passing performance by San Diego quarterback Dan Fouts, who threw for 274 yards. Fouts, who played the entire first and third quarters and the last half of the fourth quarter, set Pro Bowl records for most yards and mosl completions. He completed 17 of 30 attempts. He connected with tne New rom jeis Wesley Walker on a 34-yard scoring throw in the opening quarter, then helped the AFC to a 19-10 advantage when he directed a 69-yard scoring drive in the third period. Los Angeles Raiders rookie Marcus Allen, the NFL’s leading scorer this season, capped the march with a 1-yard touchdown plunge. The NFC trimmed the difference to six points four minutes into the final period on a 41-yard field goal by Moseley. Fouts, a 10-year veteran, has been the NFL passing yardage leader for the past four years. It was his fourth appearance in the NFL All-Star game. Last year, he guided the AFC on its winn ing drive late in a 16-13 victory. In Sunday’s game, the AFC jumped to a 9-0 lead with two scores in a 15-second span of the opening quarter. Fouts threw a perfect strike to Walker in the end zone six minutes into the game. On the NFC’s first play from scrimmage after the ensu ing kickoff, Washington’s Joe Theismann drop ped back to pass, and Kansas City defensive end At Still trapped him in the end zone for a safety. Aguirre sinks Blazers as Dallas wins, 112-105 PORTLAND (AP) — Mark Aguirre scored a career high 44 points Sunday to fire the Dallas Mavericks to their 10th victory in 13 games, a 112-105 National Basketball Associa tion victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Aguirre scored 24 of his points in the first half as Dallas took an 11 point lead, 59-48. The Blazers caught the Mavericks in the fourth period, leading by as much as three, 103-100, with 2:13 left in the game. But Aguirre hit two con secutive jump shots in a 30-second stretch and then Elston Turner connected on a three-point play with 46 seconds left to give the Mavericks a 107-103 lead. Turner, who scored only five points in a reserve role, stole the ball from Portland, which led to two free throws by Brad Davis that clinched the verdict. Davis had 19 points and Jay Vincent had 21 points to bolster the Mavericks’ attack. Jim Paxson led Portland with 25 points while Kenny Carr, held scoreless in the first half, scored 21 second-half points to fuel the Blazer come back attempt. Lafayette Lever had 18 points and six assists to lead the Blazers, 28-20. The Blazers are in third place in the Pacific Division. Dallas got 44 rebounds to Portland’s 41. Blazer tandem Wayne Cooper and Mychal Thompson had 12 rebounds each. Dallas, with the win, is now 23-24 in the Midwest Division.
