Reach out and pick up a directory The mailing of nearly 160,000 Pacific Northwest Bell directories is underway and is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, says Bruce Hall, manager of community affairs. This year's cover features a photo of Mt. Hood and Mirror Lake. For the first time, covers will include the month and year the directory was issued. A major change inside the directory will be a new format for the “customer guide1' section. It will include “community services numbers, a how to reach us" section for doing business with the telephone company and a “services and equipment” reference. The “services and equip ment” reference will include useful tips like how to discon nect and remove company telephone equipment. Correction An article in Tuesday’s Emerald incorrectly stated Housing Director Dan Williams had ap proved a new alcohol policy. Williams is still looking at the policy, said Fred Babcock, food services director of University housing. A new meal plan ap proved by Residence Hall Governance Com mittee provides 19 meals, not the 17 meals stated in the story, he added. Olum eyes role of vice president The departure of Curt Simic as vice president for university relations may bring a change in the respon sibilities of the job as well as a change in personnel. University Pres. Paul Olum, in a recent memorandum directed toward faculty and staff, has asked for sugges tions for re-organization of the role of vice president for university relations. Since each vice president is chief administrator for a major part of the University, “it seems worthwhile.. that we take a careful look at its structure and. consequently, at the general distribution of central administrative functions in the University," Olum says in the memo. Currently the position supervises the University Foun dation, alumni relations, news bureau, University publica tions, the museum of art, intercollegiate athletics, KWAX. community relations, governmental relations and alumni publications. One “novel idea" which has been suggested to Olum is to assign the management of research activities, economic and high-technology development and cor porate relations to that vice president. Other suggestions include moving intercollegiate athletics to some other area of responsibility, making the function of the vice president specifically geared toward public relations, and emphasizing legislative relations and public relations. Olum expects to decide "within the next week or so" what the exact duties of the position will entail. He says it could end up not changing at all. but he will consider all of the suggestions he receives before the end of January Simic resigned his position to accept the vice chancellorship for development at the University of California at Berkeley, effective April 1. Run, scholarship benefit highlight Greek activities A fun run to benefit the University library will climax Greek Days of Giving that fraternities and sororities are sponsoring Thursday through Saturday. The activities, organized by the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils, include a variety of fund-raising and community service events. The fun run, called "Run for the Books," will start at noon Saturday at Hayward Field. The run, which is open to the public, will feature three- and five-mile courses around campus. Entry fee is $1 for par ticipants who pre-register from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday at a table in the EMU. The cost is $150 for those who register on the day of the run. Other Greek Days of Giving activities include a canned food drive Thursday and a scholarship benefit Friday Thursday's dinner exchange begins at 5:30 p.m. at various fraternity and sorority houses Participants are asked to bring canned food for donation to the Eugene Mission and other Eugene-Springf ield area charities. Friday's "Bunion Derby" will start at 7 p.m. with each sorority woman attending a series of parties at five frater nities. Participants will pay 25 cents or 50 cents admission at each party. Bunion Derby proceeds sup port two $250 scholarships for incoming University freshmen Sex workshop tonight Students can learn more about their sexuality at a 7 p.m Wednesday at a workshop in EMU Room 176. Carol Green, a Eugene therapist specializing in women’s issues and relation ship counseling, will direct the workshop, which is sponsored by the Women's Referral and Resource Service Green teaches people to live life more fully, resolve emo tional problems and sexual issues and realize more of their potential pleasure and joy in living, according to a workshop handout. ASUO office experiences fourth personnel change The ASUO office of state and academic affairs announc ed another personnel change Monday Tracy Smith, administrative assistant to the ASUO office, has resigned, said Debi Lance, vice president in charge of the office. Smith cited a heavy course load for this term which would interfere with her office performance as the reason for resigning, Lance said. Smith's resignation is the fourth personnel change the office's paid staff has undergone this year. Her resignation follows several resignations received in December in other ASUO offices. The paid position may be filled by volunteers so the of fice can use the remaining sti pend money for transportation costs, Lance said. The money transfer would allow the ASUO more lobbying trips to Salem, she added. GET STUFFED!
