IFC tables fund request by paper,
tells groups to tighten their belts
The Incidental Fee Committee
decided Thursday to table for
one month a request by AVENU,
the achitecture and allied arts
student newspaper, for more
money to see if the publication
could generate more funding
through advertising
AVENU originally requested
$1500 from surplus for printing
costs and a director s stipend,
IFC chairer Bart Hill said After
some discussion, the news
paper requested $350 for gen
eral expenses at the meeting, he
said
Marsha Back, managing edi
tor of AVENU, said the money is
needed to offset printing reven
ue that was ci.t oft by the
Southwest Oregon chapter of
American Institute of Architects
After discussing the problem
with Hill, the newspaper has
experimented with advertising
in its first issue, she said
It would be a dangerous
precedent for the IFC to reverse
past committee decisions by
dipping into the surplus fund,
said David Gibson, ASUO vice
president of administration and
finance
Groups are going to have to
make adjustments this year
because there is little money,
Hill said.
