Wally Ziakita, Melissa Meyer, Bob Herried, Cindy
Banks, and Kela Murchison (clockwise from bottom)
play an intriguing group of characters in "Oh, What a
Lovely War," opening Wednesday in Villard Hall's
Arena Theatre
The play, a satirical musical review about World
War I written by Joan Littlewood and Charles Chilton,
will also run Oct. 28-30, Nov. 3-6,10-13, 17-20, and Dec.
1-4 at 8 p.m.
"This dazzling and satiric review shows us that war
is seldom noble and often needless," says John Rindo,
a University theater graduate student. "It makes you
laugh and it makes you want to weep."
"Most of the songs were created by the soldiers
themselves to lift morale, and they give Oh, What a
Lovely War' the color of a circus and the bumptious
ness of vaudeville," he adds.
Costumes were designed by Laura Webster and
sets by Leslie Fried. Jean Robinson is choreographer
and Michael Callahan is technical director.
Tickets are $3.25 for University students and senior
citizens, $4 for other students, and $5 for the general
public.
For reservations and further information, call the
University Thatre box office at 686-4191, noon to 4 p.m.
Monday through Saturday. The box office is also open
from noon to 8:30 p.m on performance days.
