The Campus Interfaith Min istry. “We are multifaceted,” says Tom Heger, Presbyterian minis ter with CIM. “As the Campus Interfaith Ministry, we are un iquely able to provide support for the whole person, not just in the brain, athletics, sexuality or housekeeping We meet them where they are." Heger says the ministry often supplements the more tradi tional churches nearby “Many of the ministers here are working in parishes with traditional churches and en courage students to worship there in the local congrega tion,” he says But CIM offers another, non traditional side "We remind people there are others besides the number ones We take advocacy roles for the other groups — like homosexuals, lesbians and for eign students who do not fit in,” Heger says "This is not a com fortable role for traditional churches with congregations of 200 people who are all alike ." The ministry also educates students on issues such as hunger, nuclear involvement, third world starvation and Latin American injustices Ten denominations make up the ministry Activities include classes, lectures, retreats and Bible study sessions and usually take place near campus in the Newman, Wesley or Koinonia centers. It's not like a church atmos phere." says Donna Mann O'Leary, a CIM administrator When students leave home to go to school, they want something different from the church, O'Leary says We don't preach religion — we talk as people " Generating student interest in CIM is not easy — mainly because people aren't aware of the services offered through the three centers, she says "It's hard to let people know what you do without scaring them," O'Leary says. CIM relies mainly on word-of-mouth and mailings to get people involved, she adds EUGENE ATHLETIC IchoojVlS!^ t-shirts Reg $4.00 MOW rr SHORTS Reg $12.95 MOW $6.95 SOCKS Reg $33 doz MOW $20.95 lUGENEi „ hooded SWEATSHIRTS 1 Reg. $13.95 MOW $6.95 SWEATPANTS R©g $13.95 mow $6.95 hike bruins Reg. $26.95 MOW $19.95 Corner of Broodway & Olive Son the Man ^ , 343-1288 Won.-F ri: 10-6 Sat 9~5 * Sun. 12-5 Specialists in Classical Records & Tapes Monday through Saturday 9:30-5:30 808 Charnel ton 345-6197 "\ Rombow EYE WEAR CLASSIQUE Christian Dior Dill Dloss Gloria Vanderbilt Elizabeth Arden Diane Von Furstenberg Givenchy Sophia Loren Polo (j more... 766 E. 13th 5t.
