LTD opens route circling University Why are Eugene’s buses painted a vivid lime-green and brilliant blue? Misty-grey was the original color designating Lane Transit District buses But patrons complained — especially during Oregon's frequent foggy mornings, af ternoons and evenings — that they couldn't tell when the bus was coming until it had already gone So the county-based tran sit agency consulted a ci tizen’s committee, which came up with the current color combination as being the most visible Route number 19-Main Street via the University con nects with the Kincaid stop, the mall and Springfield Several routes also service neighborhoods around the University. Students should have no trouble noticing the blue green shuttle buses circling campus this year for the first time The new shuttle route, designated route number 29-University, is an effort by LTD to better serve resident halls and the University cam pus, says Bergeron Student riders are impor tant to LTD. he says, because one fourth of LTD's ridership consists of students from the University and Lane Com munity College The new shuttle buses leave twice per hour from the main LTD terminal on the downtown mall, head for the main University bus stop at Kincaid Street and East 13th Avenue, make a loop around campus on Franklin Boulevard. Agate Street. 18th Avenue, and Hilyard Street, return to the Kincaid Street stop, and then depart for the mall Three other routes con nect the mall with 13th Aven ue and Kincaid Street One of those routes. Fox Hollow (route number 23), also heads from Kincaid past the University's Amazon Hous ing to South Eugene, making transfer connections to other points Confused? To help riders understand the system, LTD provides a schedule infor mation phone — 687-5555 Bus fares are 50 cents, but tokens can be purchased at five for $2 25, or monthly passes for $18 Bus schedules, tokens and passes are available at the mall terminal and the infor mation center in the EMU.
