The Class of 1982, in con junction with the University Foundation, has undertaken "Library: Project 1982," a fund raising campaign to help the financially plagued library. To date, the fund has grown to more than $3,500 in donations and pledges "This is the first time since 1969 that a graduating class has left a gift to the University," says Matt Schermerhorn, student coordinator of the project for the sponsoring Student Univer sity Relations Council. "The project is a positive way for students to support higher education in these budget-cut ting times." Schermerhorn explained that contributions received for the project will be set aside as an endowment The interest on this capital will be used to purchase books that will enhance the quality of the library's holdings "The purchases will directly benefit the students and the faculty members who follow us,” he said The class of 1982 is asking graduating seniors to contribute to the fund by returning pledge cards already distributed to them through the mail. Addi tional cards are available from the Office of University Rela tions, 11 Susan Campbell Hall, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403 The project's goal is to have every senior contribute $12.50 yearly over a three-year period beginning in the spring of 1983 Contributions of any size will be accepted Smoking clinic offered Six-week programs to heip smokers quit — permanently — will be offered at the University beginning this summer The summer program starts June 28.
