Atiyeh’s plan draws fire from democrat SALEM, (AP) - A state sen ator Tuesday accused Gov. Vic Atiyeh of circumventing the Oregon Economic Development Commission by setting up his own business task force. Atiyeh this week introduced the first members of the Governor's Recovery Council which he has asked to make recommendations for getting Oregonians back to work. Sen. Bill McCoy. D-Portland, said the recovery council has essentially the same goals as the Economic Development Commission. He said the state commission is capable of providing any advice the governor feels he needs. Earlier Tuesday, Atiyeh ad dressed the development commission and had the di rector of the Economic Development Department fill commissioners in on the job he has given to the recovery council. Development director Gerry Thompson told the commis sioners Atiyeh has asked his council to turn in a series of reports by mid-May. One task force will focus on tourism, and one will be asked to develop an marketing plan to sell the state to companies thinking about expanding to the Northwest.
