Men Continued from Paga BA Forwards Jerome Williams and John Greig have handled most of the rebounding chores for the Ducks. While 7-foot freshman center Blair Rasmussen has continued to improve on both ends of the court to establish a 5.1 rebounding average, Williams (a junior) and Greig (a senior) have led the team, averaging 7 8 and and 7.1 rebounds, respectively As a team, Oregon holds a 38.7 to 34 1 rebounding average over its op ponents The duo also leads the team in scoring Greig leads the Ducks with a 15.9 scoring average, while Williams is second with 13 3 points per game The Trojans began the season with high hopes that have withered somewhat, even though their 16-7 record is already better than the 14-13 mark they established last season For the Bruins, however its been a downright odd season UCLA was figured by everyone to replace Oregon State atop the Pac-10 standings, but an 0-3 start in the conference race left the Beavers again as the conference favorites Since that horrendous start, the Bruins have reeled off 11 straight conference victories to take second place, two games behind the Beavers, who they play tonight in Corvallis They have so many all-Americans on the team that they need their own basketballs," Williams says of the Bruins "It took a long time for them to mesh, but since those first three league games they've been playing really well." The Bruins are led by 6-7 sophomore forward Kenny Fields, who averaqes close to 16 points per game, and 6-6 senior forward Mike Sanders, who is considered one of the top forwards in the nation. USC is boosted by the play of all-American candidate Dwight Anderson. The 6-3 guard has been averaging close to 20 points per game despite aggravating injuries that have kept him from being at full strength. Even without those players, neither team would be a pushover for the Ducks, who have not had an easy time with teams they were supposed to beat. For Haney however, the past is the past, and the final four games of the season are very important to the team ’The end of the season is always important. To end with the taste of success on your lips is ideal,” he says "Its good to win throughout the season, but if you aren’t going to do that, you’re better off winning late than winning early and losing later in the season.” DUCK NOTES — Junior guard Paul Bain, the team’s long shooting specialist, is within range of sophomore forward David Brantley’s school record for field goal percentage, .592 (61 of 103 last year) Bain has made a team-leading percen tage of 571 (56 of 98) Greig and Williams lead the Ducks in another category — Greig has fouled out six times and Williams five to make up more than half of the number of times a Duck has fouled out of a game this year The Ducks continue to lead the league in scoring and in points given up Oregon is averaging 75 4 points per game, but is giving up 80 3 points per game MEETINGS One Way Ministries Bible study and Christian fellowship meets tonight at 8 at the House ol His Presence 1057 Patlerson St across from the University Inn All are invit ed Pastor Dan Johnson will lead the study The International Christian Fellowship will meet tonight at 7 30 at the Way Inn 1332 Kincaid St . tor Bible study led by Dr Long The University Student Intramural Coun cil will hold its weekly meeting today at 3 30 p m in the Intramural office Gerlinger Hall For turther information or Questions call Chairman Page Mesher at 686-5293 or 485-9309 The Lutheran students on campus will have a soup-supper meeting Sunday from 6-7 30 p m at Grace Lutheran Church 710 E 17th Ave SPEAKERS "Women In Today's Military is the topic ot a lecture by Prof Charles Moskos. Saturday night at McArthur Court, the women will face the Korean National squad in an international contest. Sunday afternoon, the women will play host to Bellco Electric, an AAU team from the Seattle-area. "This sure will be a tough weekend for us,” sighed Oregon coach Elwin Heiny. "Sometimes you need good hard games like this." Most everybody who follows Oregon women’s basketball remembers the last time the Ducks faced the Korean National club. That was back in 1978 when Oregon won a close, 68-67 victory. "That game really had a significant effect on our basketball program," Heiny said. Seven thousand people watched what many called “the most exciting game they have ever seen at McArthur Court, either women’s or a men’s game,” he said The Ducks, 19-4 on the year and ranked 10th in the nation, will have to be wary of the Koreans quickness and size, says Bev Smith, the Ducks' senior all-American. "They are very fast on the court and well-disciplined,” said Smith, who is averaging 18 8 points a game and pulling down 11.4 rebounds an outing. “They only do what they are capable of doing and they do it well.” Debbie Adams, former Oregon star and currently a coach at the University of Washington is spending her playing days playing for Bellco. Game time for the Korean game is 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 p m Sunday for Bellco. What can I do after graduation? The Peace Corps has some ideas.
