"What I've found is that most pre-law services apply to the University Law School, rather than law schools in general," Lawrence says So Lawrence and Chow decided to do something about the dearth of graduate school information by organizing the MBA and Law School informa tion center in Room 164 of Oregon Hall After receiving approval from the academic advising office, Lawrence and Chow set out to build a comprehensive'file of about the schools Lawrence sent letters to 167 accredited law schools, which accounts tor all the law schools in the United States and Can ada, she says Another aim is to provide material on pre-law education, Lawrence says Funding tor the information center has come from Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lamda Delta, two freshman honorary groups that Chow and Lawrence were involved with last year Law rence says the center was an outgrowth of their involvement in the honoraries The information center will be compatible with both the busi ness and law schools and are not intended to replace advising services they offer The business school does have some brochures and ad vises students, says Larry Ri The center offers students law school and MBA information. information on graduate pro grams in law and in business administration The center s purpose is to give interested students information to help them find the right graduate program Files are kept on graduate pro grams nationwide in both law and business administration, in addition to records of a school's mean graduate admission scores, grade point average, and other pertinent information Chow says he began to think about organizing an information center last summer while pon dering his own graduation Dur ing fall term, both Lawrence and Chow were busy sending letters to schools throughout the country asking for catalogs and other information They also designed a survey form to gather specific information AUTO INSURANCE Low Monthly Rates Jerry Brown Ins. 1385 Oak 485-4010 chards. graduate affairs direc tor "Once a student has direc tion, we can provide the most help because we've got the faculty," Richards says Lawrence says she hopes the center can become a student organization and eventually receive funding through the In cidental Fee Committee Also in the works are plans to find area professionals to speak to students about the law as a profession, all in an effort to make the center a place for ‘ practical experience."
