General Information improving on a good thing. Back in September, Lane Transit District introduced a whole new system of routes and schedules. The response was immediate and positive: ridership increased initially by 1500 riders a week. After living with the system for a few months, we re still very excited about rider response. And to further accommodate new traffic and rider ship patterns, we've made a few minor adjustments on many of the schedules. For instance, since ridership on the #17 WEYERHAEUSER route was very low, we have discontinued it and increased service on the busy #15 LCC/ASHLANE route. We have also added a new Eugene—uof 0—Spring field connection by introducing the #19 MAIN STREET via U OF O route. This will help alleviate the overload problem on #11 THURSTON, and improve service from Springfield to U of 0 and Sacred Heart Hospital. Routes have also changed in the Bethel Drive area. The #42 BETHEL drive route has been deleted due to low ridership. However, #44 ECHO HOLLOW will now cover the southern portion of Bethel Drive, and will run more often than the #42 did. These are a few of the major changes —this guide will explain all adjust ments on all routes, it includes sched ules and maps which you may want to keep handy, as well as the follow ing information. Lower Fares. Times are tough in Lane county right now. But to show we re willing to take an extra step, in September Lane Transit District lowered all fares. We re one of the first transit districts in the nation to do this, in an effort to respond to local economic condi tions and attract new riders. Before you ride ... things you should know. A) Pocket schedules A bus rider s best friend is the pocket schedule, it s especially useful for your first ride because it tells you where the bus goes along the route. B) New Bus stop Signs During the past few months, over 600 new bus stop signs have been installed in the Eugene-Springfield area, thanks to a federal grant. These signs have been placed approximately every two blocks on each urban route. Please wait at these locations to catch the bus. It helps insure your safety and allows for faster driving time on the routes—which improves our efficiency and saves money.
