Cuba to take on Duck women The Oregon women's basket bail team gets a taste of interna tional competition tonight when the Cuba National team brings it's talents to McArthur Court, of ficially opening the Duck's season in an 8 p.m game The Ducks are the Cubans’ final stop on an eight-game na tional tour that has seen them struggle to a 3-4 record, which is a suprise to many experts who rank them among the world's best teams. "I think they are probably the third or fourth best team in the world," says Oregon coach Elwin Heiny "But they appear to be either up or down, on or off. This is a team that has failed to get past the first round in the World University games.” Close scores have been the rule for the Cubans on their tour of the nation’s top college powers Old Dominion (71-68), last year's third-place finisher in the national championships, UCLA (85-72) and San Diego State (72-60) have been Cuba's wins on the tour. The defeats have been to such powers as national champion Louisiana Tech (87-66), Texas (67-61), Stephen F. Austin (86-85), and North Carolina State (77-75). The key to controlling the game could be keeping the Cuban of fense outside says Bev Smith is no stranger to the Cubans, having played against them the past four years with Canadian national teams.
