In Search Of: the perfect date The "Perfect Date” isn’t a person It's an adventure Sometimes, especially at this time of year, it seems like every day is another boring rerun of the day before Style and Class seem nonexistent, except maybe in old Bogart movies There’s nothing special to look forward to but finals In times like these, it is important to recapture life Bring some class back into your life, even if only for one evening After all, you have little to lose, and you just might end up with some of the best memories of your life Do crazy things Pretend you're a foreigner Drink Coke from champagne glasses Have a picnic in the rain Just keep it legal First, find someone to share your adventure with They don’t have to be the most beautiful or handsome thing on campus, just someone you get along with relatively well, and can feel comfortable with Next, do something interesting Whether playing pinball together or renting a canoe for the afternoon, do something And do it with style Finally, try to get home at a decent hour. You've got that midterm coming up, and you know how your mother and I worry about you Painting the town by the numbers So you've got a hold of some bucks, have a honey and an evening free How can you be sure you won t blow It all and end up with a lousy (and ex pensive) evening9 The key is planning The accoutrements are the most im portant part of the evening If I-ITS the minor details come together well, the evening will be great Start with an invitation No big deal, just a little card with your nicest penmanship, maybe attached to a bottle of champagne Flowers would be a good idea Just to get every thing off to a really classy start Next, make those reservations Any place that's nice e nough to spend a heap of money on requires at least a few days notice The major question, of course, is where to eat There are lots of choices in every style and price range Local favorites 7 71 include The Excelsior Cafe, L'Auberge, Sweetwaters (at Valley River Inn), and a myriad of steak places It all depends on what you want to eat, and what style of place you want to eat it in The Excelsior is very nice and fairly informal (but extremely polite). The steak places are real dark (just be sure you don’t lose your potato under the table) Generally, if you're going to go for the gusto, go for the gusto Steak you can have any time (at a cheaper place) But how often will you get a chance to have Escargot or Pan-fried Sicilian style Squid? If you have the bucks to blow, you might consider doing it up with a limousine Simington Limousine Service will take you just about anywhere you could want to go for less than you might expect In style Dress for the evening? Again, use your imagination A nice suit with tennis shoes would be classy. Dresses aren't absolute ly required It all depends on what you're comfortable with. Finally, do it classy Bring a bouquet of flowers with you If you have a friend with an old British sports car, give him anything in exchange for one night's rental Even if you're a staunch women’s libber, you might consider holding doors open for the other person. It may seem awkward at first, but it really makes an impression Finally, relax. This evening is for both of you, not just enter tainment for your partner Enjoy yourself Be friendly with every one You'll have a lot more fun if you act like yourself rather then trying to be Bogart or Gable All in all. hope for the best, and be prepared to ad-lib should everything get messed up by matt meyer
