Economy examined Lane County ’s economy is going down the tubes, and it's time to do something about it That's the consensus of local businessmen who have joined together to form a coalition called the Lane Economic Foundation LEF is a county-wide, privately-funded or ganization intent on providing the Eugene area with econ omic diversification The organization, which met Friday to set its goals and objectives, plans to provide a professional marketing outline tor Lane County's economic development The marketing plan - expected to cost $500,000 annually for three years — is designed to taring new businesses and jobs into Lane County "Only an affluent community can do the things we want to do here.' said LEF’s executive vice-president John Ali ucker ”We must do something about the economic base or we can t improve sociaHy LEF’s tost step is to bring in a nationally established firm to conduct a county-wide audit, he said The audit wilt outline toe county 's good and bad points and identify businesses and industries most suited to toe region Results from the audit expected to cost around $50,000 should be available by toe end of January.
