Twelve advance at nationals
Twelve Oregon women ad
vanced to the semi-finals or fin
als in their events at the AIAW
national track meet in Austin,
Texas.
Despite the sweltering heat,
Oregon came through with a
series of outstanding perfor
mances, said Oregon coach
Tom Heinonen.
One of the most spec
tacular of those came from so
phomore Sally Harmon in the
javelin. Harmon had the best
throw in Thursday’s qualifying
round, a 172-5 toss that broke
her personal best of 169-10, set
while a senior at Springfield
High School.
Harmon was ninth in last
year’s AIAW meet, held at
Hayward Field.
As expected, Leann Warren
easily won her qualifying heats
in the 800 and 1,500 meters with
the top marks of the day. War
ren, the world leader in the mile
this season, clocked a 4:22.7 to
advance the finals in the 1,500.
In the 800, Warren ran
2:07.61 to qualify for the semis.
The Duck sophomore was
runnerup in last year's AIAW
800 and is the U S. leader in the
event this season.
Ranza Clark also qualified
for the semis in the 800 with a
2:10.29.
In the 100 hurdles, Lexie
Miller (13.72) and Kris Costello
(13.76) advanced to the semis.
Miller also gained the semis in
the 400 hurdles with a 60.22

San Francisco has some

They are elegant, yet

barbeque ribs.
