    Conference to discuss women’s issues

The 1981 Women’s Symposium
begins today with a full schedule of
speeches, workshops and art exhibits.
At 9:30 a m. in the EMU Dad’s Room,
symposium co-directors Dee Dee
Akiyama and Linda Chase will officially
open the symposium, which concludes
Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Today’s events will include.
“Racism: Taking Action,’’ a three
part program sponsored by the YWCA
The first part, a panel discussion titled
“What is Racism?,” will begin at 10 a m.
in the Dad’s Room.
The second part, “Workshops for
Discussion and Introspection,” will be
held in three separate sections, one for
minority women, one for white women
and one for men and women of all
races. The sessions will begin at 2 p.m.
The session for minority women will be
held in EMU Room 214, the one for
white women will be held in EMU Room
213, and the mixed session will be held
in the Dad's Room.
The program’s third part, a panel
discussion of coalition-building against
racism, will begin at 4 p.m. in the Dad’s
Room.
Other events today will be:
A panel discussion of “Choices in
Women’s Health Care” at 10 a m. in the
EMU Forum.
A discussion of “Coalition Building
Across Differences” at 10 a m. in EMU
Room 108.
A workshop on “Current Trends in
Maternity Health Care” at 10:30 a.m. in
EMU Room 101.
A speech on “Contemporary Issues
in Asian-American Women Writer’s
Work” by Merle Woo, an occasional
teacher of Ethnic Studies at the
University of California at Berkeley, at
noon in the Dad’s Room.
A discussion of “Christianity: Femin
ine Mystique or Faith in Action?” at 1:30
p.m. in EMU Room 101.
A discussion of “Development: For
People or Profit” in EMU Room 215 at 2
p.m.
A videotape workshop at 3 p.m. in
EMU Room 110 at 3 p.m.
A "Coalition-Building Potluck” at the
YWCA at 5:30 p.m.
The showing of two films, “The Mak
\\
ing of the Dinner Party" and "Nigun,”
at 7:30 p.m. in 177 Lawrence.
A speech on the right to resist and
fight in self-defense by Nilak Butler, of
the American Indian Movement, at 8
p.m. in the Dad’s Room.
A women’s art exhibit will open at
noon in Room 167 and continue until
the symposium’s end on Friday.
