Klutznick fills law chair
Philip Klutznick, secretary of
commerce during the last year
of the Carter presidency, has
been chosen to fill the Wayne
Morse Chair of Law and Politics
at the University this spring.
A prominent Chicago attor
ney and businessman, Klutznick
will be at the University from
April 27 until May 8 to lecture,
meet with a variety of classes
and confer with faculty and
students.
"Philip Klutznick's interests
and experience have covered a
range of fields from internation
al relations to major urban
economic development to
federal government service as
secretary of commerce,” says
Emory Via, director of the
University Labor Education and
Research Center and chairer of
the faculty committee on the
Morse chair. “He will be offering
the campus and the state intel
lectually stimulating pre
sentations that are backed
by a wealth of first-hand exper
ience and by many years of
public service."
Klutznick’s first lecture is
scheduled for Tuesday, April 28,
at 3:30 p.m. in the Gerlinger
Alumni Lounge. He will speak
on "The American Economy:
An Assessment.”
He also will speak at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 6, in the EMU
Dad's Room.

University graduates are encouraged to
apply tor the 1981 Eric Englund scholarship
for post-graduate study In American
studies, Including literature, history or
related subjects.
The $2,000 scholarship allows further
study at any college or university selected by
the student with the advice and approval of
University authorities.
American studies may include American
civilization, ethnic studies, folklore and
linguistics. A student need not have an
undergraduate degree in English or history
to be considered.
Applicants should submit a proposal list
ing the support of a faculty member familiar
with the student's work to Thelma Green
field, acting English department head, Room
118 PLC Deadline is April 17.
A committee of English and history faculty
members will make the final selection. They
