Eighty percent of women who contract gonorrhea virtually are without symptoms. The only early in dication may be a yellowish dis charge from the vagina. Not all discharges signal a gonorrheal infection. Left untreated, the infection may spread to the uterus and other pelvic organs. Acute symptoms include pelvic pain, abdominal tenderness, vomiting and fever. In its most serious stage, gonorrhea may result in sterility. Since gonorrhea is transmit ted through sexual contact, in cluding oral and anal sex, pos sible symptoms in those areas should not be ignored. The primary symptom of gonorrhea that has been transmitted orally is sore throat. However, there may be accompanying high fever and swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Early symptoms of rectal gonorrhea include itching and rectal discharge. Many cases are mild and without symptoms. If a woman suspects she has gonorrhea, she should contact her doctor or the local VD clinic immediately. It is only through examination of the discharge that the disease can be verified. Can a woman give another woman gonorrhea, I mean, if they're gay? Yes, it is possible that a woman could transmit gonor rhea to another woman through sexual contact, but this hap pens only infrequently. Gonorrhea can be found in any mucous membrane (including the throat cavity, tonsils, anus and most commonly the genital area). It is usually spread through direct contact of in fected mucous membrane with other mucous membrane. In women, the most common genital site for gonorrhea is the cervix (the entrance to the uter us at the end of the vagina). It is possible that the bacteria could spread from the cervix through oral or genital contact with in fected vaginal discharge. In cases where gonorrhea has in fected the throat cavity, it is rare to find that the bacteria has spread from mouth-to-mouth by kissing alone. Even though local statistics report few if any lesbians treat ed for gonorrhea (excluding bi sexual women, who could have contracted the disease from a male partner), this isn’t the last word on the subject. If you are gay and think you have symp toms of gonorrhea, or any type of infection, you should see a doctor immediately. Green Beret advisors sent to El Salvador WASHINGTON (AP) - The Reagan administration is send ing Green Beret military ad visers to El Salvador and is try ing to put together a package of $140 million in economic aid for the Central American nation, including $63.5 million from the US. The administration, faced with widespread public skep ticism over its Salvadoran policies, also has begun to back away from its effort to make that country the initial testing ground in its campaign against Soviet expansionism. Pentagon officials said that some 15 Army Special Forces troopers have been ordered to El Salvador to help train units of the Salvadoran army in tech niques for battling guerrillas. Three teams of five men each will be sent from the Panal Can al Zone for the training, the Pentagon said. One member from each team is already in El Salvador and the other dozen are expected to be there by the end of the month.
