Tonight, the Ducks will take on the Beavers in a 7:30 game in McArthur Court, and another intense Civil War game is ex pected Adams should know During her four-year career at the University, the 5-10 guard has played against the Beavers 10 times and only lost once. That loss was a 75-68 deci sion in the 1978-79 regional championships. The loss taught the Ducks a needed lesson, Adams says. “We'd already played them twice and we knew we were going to win. “We went in overconfident and lost.” Learning the message cost Oregon a trip to nationals, but in the long run the loss gave the The perfect gift for your special Valentine. Getting the message across that Oregon State will always be tough has fallen partly upon Adams' shoulders. “After four years you know what’s right and what’s wrong. “The younger players look up to people who’ve been around a while, especially Bev (Smith), and I suppose that includes my self,” Adams says. “But I’m not really a leader. I just try to make sure things are done well.” Doing things right against OSU is imperative for Oregon to beat them, says Stenseth. "If we r l Gift Certificates for your Valentine. 13th & Hilyard Open till 11:00 Fri. & Sat. till 12:30 Debbie Adams play our own game they shouldn’t be able to stay with us.” During the past four years the people on both teams have gotten better, Adams says. “But the play has been about the same — always a good game.” “We really do want to do well against them,” says assistant coach Neil Stenseth. “Debbie has always been a factor against OSU When Debbie plays well we’ve always done well." Adams, Oregon's consistent player for speed and stamina, didn’t consider basketball as her full-time sport until her jun ior year. She came to Oregon on a track scholarship, after being promised she also could play basketball. Adams’ decision to devote her time to basketball was greeted with enthusiam and promise. “It was a good deci sion,” she says. On the court, the benefits of the decision are apparent. Last season, Adams set a an Oregon record with 38 points in a game. Although it is doubtful the record will be broken tonight, the game will be played with a lot of intensity, Adams says. “After two really well played games (in Montana), were ex pecting a tough, intense game. “Everyone, even the fresh men, knows about Corvallis. We want to win.” After four years and 11 games, Adams wants to finish with only one loss in a Civil War match-up.
