Combining historical fact and dramatic monologues, ‘‘The Northwest Woman” introduces the audience to the Oregon pioneer experience through the lives of four 19th century women. The play, which had its first tour of Oregon last year, is nar rated by University history Prof. Edwin Bingham, a specialist in Northwest history. Actress Jane Van Boskirk, the only cast member, performs four monologues written by Eugene playwritght Dorothy Velasco. The monologues portray pioneers Narcissa Whitman, one of the first white women in the Pacific Northwest; Elizabeth Geer, a pioneer who came to Oregon in 1847; Margaret Bailey, a missionary and the first novelist in the Northwest; and Bethenia Owens-Adair, one of the first female doctors in the Northwest. A continuous slide show by filmmaker Ron Finne is blended with the performance to depict the people and places featured in the play. Traditional fiddle music collected and performed by Linda Danielson helps cap ture the flavor of the period. The production is directed by Kitty Parks. briefs MEETINGS The International Christian Fellowship will meet tonight at 7;30 p.m at the Way Inn, 1332 Kincaid St. All interested students are invited.
