Two receive internships
Steven Sechrist and Deborah
Abe, senior journalism majors,
are among 14 outstanding jour
nalism students from through
out the United States who have
been awarded Congressional
Internships by Sears, Roebuck
and Co.
The interns, scheduled to ar
rive in Washington, D.C., on
Feb 1, will spend three months
serving on the staffs of
members of Congress.
They also will attend a series
of seminars on “Understanding
and Interpreting Legislative Af
fairs,” conducted by Gary Se
rota. Congressional Man
agement Foundation director
and academic adviser to the
interns.
The 14 students were select
ed by a panel of professional
journalists and educators who
evaluated applicants on their
academic performance, writing
ability and interest in political
reporting. The interns receive
stipends of approximately
$2,000 each.
The goal of the Sears Con
gressional Internship program,
now in its 10th year, is to pro
vide outsanding journalism
students with first-hand know
ledge of the legislative process.

Scholarship lor Gradual* Study In Scot
land. The Saint Andrew's Society of the
State of New York awards scholarships of up
to $8,500 for a minimum of one academic
year's study at a Scottish university. The
awards are based on evidence of academic
achievement, activities, leadership, financial
need, Scottish descent, and a statement of
personal objectives. The University can
