Farmers’ market planned
The Amazon Community Tenants (ACT) and the University
Food-Op will co-sponsor a farmers' market Saturday at Amazon
Student Housing on the corner of 22nd Avenue and Patterson
Street. The market will begin at 8 a m and run until 1 p.m on the
Patterson Street side of the housing.
Fresh local produce will be featured, including potatoes, green
peppers, zucchini squash, carrots and other vegetables. Some
out-of-state produce, including fruit, will also be sold.

Solar booklets available
The University's Solar Energy Center is offering several books
and pamphlets to people interested in learning how to calculate
solar energy levels or evaluate heat losses from their homes
"The best way for an individual to learn about solar energy is to
start right from the beginning," says John Reynolds, University
architecture professor and center director "We have two or three
publications that offer an introduction to the application of solar
energy "
According to Reynolds, there are eight booklets available and a
list showing the title, description and cost of each may be ordered
from the center at no charge The booklets, written by University
faculty and students, range in price from 75 cents to $5
One of the introductory booklets. Pacific Northwest Solar
Buildings,'' costs S5 and presents photos, plans and sections of 65
solar buildings in the Northwest
Another. "Solar Guide and Calculator." costs $3 and provides
an introduction to how the sun can be collected as energy and
shows how to calculate different levels of solar intensity
Reynolds suggests that individuals, after reviewing the list of
booklets, may examine copies of the booklets at the Architecture
and Allied Arts library before ordering them from the center The
library is located in 227 Lawrence

Cedar firewood offered
Free cedar firewood is available to anyone with the vehicle to
travel to the coast and pick it up
According to Mapieton District Ranger Melvin Kessel. the site
will be open Saturday from 9 a m to 5 p m for firewood collection
No permit will be required and a Forest Service employee will be
available to direct people to the site The wood is waste material
which has been cut into two-foot lengths, saws will not be needed
The site is about nine miles from Florence and can be reached
by going south from Florence on Highway 101 to Honeyman State
Park, then a left turn on County Road 5310 (Canary Road); travel
about seven miles to Forest Service Road 4830 (Popo Road) and
then about two miles to where the Forest Service employee will be
directing firewood gatherers into the area.
