Student featured in film
A documentary film about a deaf and blind doctoral student at
the University will be shown Saturday throughout the state by the
Oregon Educational Public Broadcasting System (OEPBS).
The 28-minute film, "Addle and Dr Beth," tells the unique
story of Addie Becht, the first deaf-blind person in the country ever
to enroll in a Ph. D. program
The program was directed and produced for OEPBS by
Eugene filmmakers Sharon Genasci and Kris Jensen It will be
shown at 4:30 p m on the "Oregon College Journal" series It will
appear on Channel 7. Corvallis and Eugene: Channel 10 Portland;
Channel 3, Salem and Channel 13. LaGrande
Paulus will lecture
Oregon Secretary of State Norma Paulus will address a
University political science class Monday at 10:30 a m. in Room
110 Fenton Hall
The topic of Paulus' lecture, which is open to ail interested
persons, will be the state of Oregon politics
She will discuss how citizens can participate effectively in the
governmental process, according to Paul Glover, University
professor of political science
Art winners announced
Three Eugene artists have been named winners in a compe
tition at the University School of Law to commission art works for
the law school building
They are Glen Povey, 2003 Columbia St; Steve Giliman, 1202
Barber Dr.,; and Elinor Steele. 649 W 12th Ave Each will receive
$750
Povey will create three sculptured tapestries, each about four
feet wide and five feet tall and framed in wood
Gillman's work will be a six-foot, 800 pound sculpture of
quarried columnar basalt, a material which is natural to the Eugene
area
Steele will design 10 tapestry banners, each about a foot wide
and 10 feet long
The works are expected to be complete and installed by
summer

their birth records, a second form of identification and two
duplicate studio photographs taken within the past six months A
passport costs $13 and is qood for five years
Since 1970 the Postal Service has accepted passport
applications in a joint effort with the Department of State to provide
convenient service to U S citizens planning to travel abroad
