sports Equipping your feet for jogging can prove to be overwhelming Shoe prices should continue to ride up with inflation Anyone who has bought a pair of running shoes in Eugene has probably encountered the almost endless market of available shapes, sizes and colors. But in terms of top class running shoes, there are approximately six major brands. Top of the line are Adidas and Nike, followed closely by Brooks, Osaga, Newbalance and Pony, according to Steve Parker, manager of the Athletic Depart ment. In Eugene, four stores carrying all of the major brands are, Ullr Sport Shop, Luby’s Sports Center, The Athletic Department and the Osaga retail store. Ullr Sport Shop, located at 1508 Coburg Rd., sells Nike as its major brand, but will begin to carry Adidas this spring. Top price is $39.95 for the LDV, while the low est, the Nike Oceana, sells for $19.95. The Waffle Trainer, $29.95, is their best all-around running and training shoe. Luby's, located at 79 W. Broadway, carries a large selec tion of running shoes, including Adidas, Newbalance, Tiger and Osaga. At Luby's the Adidas TRX, Formula 1, and the Orion sell best. The most expensive are the TRX Photo by Don Miner Shoes, shoes, shoes! Picking the correct jogging shoe is an ominous task if every variety is considered. Nike is one of the most popular brands in Eugene. Celtics obtain McAdoo for three first-round picks NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks announced Monday the team traded high-scoring for ward Bob McAdoo to the Boston Celtics for three first-round draft choices. Boston is to deliver the No. 1 choices of Golden State and Seat tle as well as the Celtics' top pick to the Knicks for McAdoo, the three-time National Basketball Association scoring champion. Boston owned the Golden State and Seattle choices as a result of earlier trarnsactions. The Knicks were without a first round selection in the NBA draft, having shipped two No. 1 picks to Seattle. New York's own first-round choice went to the Super Sonics in a trade for Spencer Haywood in 1975. Haywood subsequently was sent to New Orleans in De cember in a trade for center Joe C. Meriweather. The Knicks also owned the New Jersey Nets' no. 1 pick as part of the territorial compensation set tlement when the Nets moved from Long Island. But that pick was turned over to Seattle as part of the compensation for signing free agent Marvin Webster prior to the start of the 1978-79 season. -— "German AUTO SERVICE VW’S MERCEDES BMW'S DATSUN TOYOTA reliable service tor your foreign car 2025 Franklin Blvd Eugene, Ore. 97403 Bus. The Athletic Department also carries the newest Nike, the Tail wind. Regarded as a revolutionary shoe because of a unique air-sole construction, it's also the most ex pensive at $50.00. If you have your sights set a little lower, con sider the Roadrunner at $26.95, a high quality, good training shoe. The Osaga Retail Store at 261 Valley River Center, specializes in Osaga. With so many brands and mod els on the market how does one make a decision? “Most people decide by what their friends say. Usually they’ll hear something about them and then find out by running in them.” says Parker. “We had more runners last sum mer then ever before. I also see more specialization in women’s shoes, both for running and rac ing,” he says. "I think the prices will continue to ride with inflation. As for shoes like the Tailwind, because it's u nique, it’s better for most people. I do not think the high price will hurt it,” he added. ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ ¥ Treat your Sweetie ^ ^p fresh flowers ^p chocolates ^p cards ^p books ^p ¥ 13th & Kincaid 686-4331 Open: Mon-Fri 8:15-5:30 Sat 10:00-2:00 ¥ ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ IT’S NOT TOO LATE!
