A four-session workshop titled
"Improving Couple Communica
tion” will be offered by the Mar
riage Education Center beginning
Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
The sessions will focus on how
to improve communication be
tween the partners through the
application of listening skills and
conflict-resolution techniques.
Pre-registration is required and
the cost is $65 per couple. The
Marriage Education Center is a

Museum design discussed
Architectural engineer Derek Pike, a former staff member of the
firm which helped develop the structural design of the controversial
"Centre Pomidou" art museum in Paris, will speak at the University
Wednesday.
Pike, now a project engineer for John Herrick, a Eugene structural
engineering firm, will discuss the structural design of the Centre Pom
pidou at 7:30 p.m. in Room 177, Lawrence Hall.
Pike moved to Eugene last year from a job with ARUP Associates
of London, an internationally known architectural firm which employs
specialists from several disciplines.
Among other projects, Pike helped re-develop the Naval Dock
yards at Portsmouth, England and worked on the structural design of a
multi-use housing development in Manama City, a city in the Persian
Gulf country of Bahrain.
The slide-illustrated lecture, sponsored by the University architec
ture department, will be open to the public free of charge.
