et al Chicano activists speak about politics and culture Chicano activists, Victor and Maria Valle, will host two multi-media presentations in the EMU this week. Today at 7:30 p.m. Valle will narrate a slide show, ‘ International Youth Festival—Impressions of Cuba, 1978.'’ It is the first time this annual socialist youth conference has been held in the Western Hemis phere. The politics of the Somoza regime in Nicaragua will also be discus sed, says Valle. Wednesday's program, "An Evening of Chicano Poetry, Theater and Art," employs videotape and Valle s poetry to explore life in Los Angeles’ Chicano communities. Included is “A Choice of Colors," an examination of Chicano youth gangs and the ghettos that spawn them. The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. Valle, whose work has been published in Mexico, Spain, and the U S., was a winner of the 1977 poetry contest at the University of California, where he taught folklore and mythology. He currently edits "Somos”, a magazine promoting Chicano community involvement. Room numbers wll be announced for the events, which are spon sored by the Chicano Affairs Center, MEChA, Mayday Cultural Commit tee, University of Oregon YWCA, and the Eugene Committee for a Free Chile. Holiday workshops open Registration is now taking place for holiday workshops sponsored by the Eugene Parks and Recrea tion Department at three commun ity centers. The Sheldon center is offering CASABLANCA at the Mayflower Nov 29 - Dec 5 classes in ceramic ornaments, cookie and cake decorating, mac rame Santa and programs for children. Shuttle service between the Eugene Mall and Mac Court for all University basketball games is now available along with an extra evening bus service on all routes to and from the mall and Valley River Center. Bus departures for basketball games will be from Section D on the mall at regular intervals from 7 to 8 p.m. After the games, ser vices will be available to make transfer connections at the down town mall. The extra evening bus service between the mall and Valley River Center will be in effect until Dec. 24. More information on the bus routes is available at the LTD in formation office, 687-5555. Oregon’s nature feature of show The Lane County Audubon Society's monthly membership meeting will feature Wayne Rifer, director of Oregon Natural Herit age Program. Rifer will present a silde program depicting Oregon’s diverse natural heritage. The slide show will follow the society's meeting at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Central Presbyterian Church, 15th Avenue and Ferry Street.
