et al Laser study wins grant peanuts University chemist Paul Engelking is directing a new laser study which has been awarded a $16,000 grant from the Research Corpora tion of New York City. The specific aim of the project, Engelking says, is to use a laser beam in his campus laboratory or conduct spectroscopic analyses of burning gases. However, a long range project goal is to help perfect a technique for using lasers to diagnose a wide range of combustion-type reactions, he says. The Research Corporation grant was funded through a donation from the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust of Vancouver, Wash. The trust is named for the founder of Tektronix, Inc., a Beaverton electronics firm. Straub Hall will be open for studying each weekday evening through final examination week. Located adjacent to the Erb Memorial Union, Straub will be open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Straub is fully accessible to the physically handicapped. Yoga retreat scheduled A Kundalini yoga retreat will be held this weekend at Brightenbush Hot Springs, Oregon. "It's going to be an invigorating, relaxing experience," says retreat spokesperson Sat Kirpal. “It'll be cozy and fun." The retreat will involve diet, health and nutrition, and the "technol ogy" of Kundalini yoga. An Olympic-size, naturally heated outdoor pool will be available, Kirpal says. Kundalini yoga is designed to energize the body, particularly the nervous and gland systems, and to give control over the mind, accord ing to Kirpal. Participants are asked to bring a sleeping bag, warm clothes, swimsuit, mat and notebook. The retreat runs from 10 a.m. Saturday through 5 p.m. Sunday. Registration costs are $35 for individuals and $60 for married couples to cover expenses, including meals.
