Open Gallery to feature "Bandit Queen/ video works For those of you who missed Jesse and the Bandit Queen last year at the University Theatre, the play will be performed at the Open Hear and Now is edited by Eric Maloney and Jerrll Nilson. All contributions are welcome, but should be submitted one week prior to the event. All contributions to Out and About must be submitted the Friday before publication. Gallery this week. The dates are April 7-8 at 8 p.m„ and April 9 at 2 p.m. Bandit Queen is an adult west ern fantasy based on both the fac tual existence of two Western thieves and the heroic myths that have been built around them. The play consists of two roles—that of the outlaw Jesse James and Belle Starr. Tickets for all shows are $2.50 in advance and $3 at the door. For reservations call 345-4857. Also coming up at the Gallery are three Brown Bag Flicks. Today, Ed Mellnick will present two video works: A Boob in a Tube (about ex-president Nixon), and Video Performance, in which Mellnick will use feedback and other electronic tricks to create a piece of video art. On Tuesday, Craig Henderson, an instructor of video graphics at the University, will present works by himself and his students. No specific theme or content has been set; the show will be an ex ploration of the limits of television. Next Thursday, David Joyce will show video works on local stained-glass window maker Re nold Peterson and several audio-graphic studies on the rela tionship of sound to imagery. All Brown Bag Flicks are at noon, and cost $1. Showing at the Gallery until April 14 is Homage to Eros, which, according to their newsletter, in cludes “esoteric erotica, obscure and amazing photos, disturbing, fur-covered sculpture, cartoons of dubious merit and propriety, draw ings of strawberries, legs, faces, hatracks and gauze bandages, etc.” Open Gallery is located at 445 High St. in the Midgley’s Mill Complex. Kems Art Center. Their works will be on display through April 30 ... Prints by Jacob Kainen, former curator of prints and drawings for the Smith sonian Institution, will be on exhibit at the University Museum of Art April 9 through May 7. Also opening Sunday is a sculp ture exhibit by Stephan Solhl.... The Pleasure Jazz Quartet opened at the Eugene Hotel Tuesday and will perform through the 8th. The group plays a variety of jazz and jazz stylings, including the sounds of Grover Washington Jr., Weather Report, and Miles Davis.... Inti-lllimani, a Chilean group in exile, will give two shows on April 16 in the EMU Ballroom. Ticketsforthe 2 p.m. matinee are $4 in advance, $5 at the door; for the 7:30 p.m. show, $5 in advance and $6 at the door — Music coming up in Portland: Art Garfunkel will be at the Portland Civic Auditorium on Saturday at 8 p.m. Also at the Civic, violinist Ruggerio Rucci will perform with the Oregon Symphony April 9-11, and the Vancouver Symphony will perform on the 12th ... guitarist Chet Atkins is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19... George Benson will appear at the Paramount on Friday, April 15... Foghat is scheduled for the Jantzen Beach Arena on April 17 and 18... Finally, the James Cotton Blues Band will play two shows at the Euphoria this Saturday_ Bob Dylan’s massive Renaldo and Clara will open at the Mayflower on April 14... Beginning Saturday, the Northwest Film Study Center, S.W. Park and Madison Streets in Port land, is sponsoring a salute to the National Film Board of Canada. Saturday s films include Animation Not Just for Chil dren, six shorts, and Games of the XXI Olympiad. Grierson is on tap for Sunday night. All films are free. The play is free of charge... An OEPBS crew will film parts of the Saturday matinee performance of Oregon Repertory Theatre's Indulgences in the Lousiville Harem at 2 p.m. The filming is for a half-hour TV documentary on the rehearsal process, and includes interviews with company members and playwright John Orlock_ The University's Hawaii Club will be having its annual luau April 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the EMU Ballroom. Dinner tickets are $5.50 for the general public, $5 for University students, and $3.50 for children. Tickets are available at the EMU Desk and in the front of the Bookstore_ Willamette University is sponsoring a conference on "Environment and Values” featuring poet Wendall Berry and historian Theodore Roszak.
