Scientists study Sasquatch’s voice LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — University of Wyoming (UW) scientists say that if there is a Bigfoot he may have a big mouth. UW electrical engineer Lynn Kirlin has what he believes is a tape recorded voice of a Sasquatch made in Northern California in 1971. Kirlin and graduate student Laasse Hertel are analyzing the tape. “We are trying to show statistically this recording is either typical of non-typical of human speech," Kirlin said. Kirlin said he obtained the tape recording, chosen for study be cause of its clarity, from a Sacramento journalist last August. The tape was made by placing the recorder several hundred feet outside of a camp in the Sierra Nevada Range and yelling to suspected Sasquatch lurking in the underbrush, he said. Kirlin and Hertel are using a special small computer in an attempt to compare the recorded voice with human voices. Voice pitch frequencies are in the range of a deep-voiced human male, Kirlin said. The tape also contains articulation, which Kirlin says is unique to human communication. The vocal tract lengths — distances from the vocal cords to the lips — are also unusual. “We have found the voice to be proportionally larger for Bigfoot as compared to a human man,” Kirlin said. The vocal tract is about 10 centimeters ionger than the tract for a human male. "Whatever conclusions are made will not verify Bigfoot’s existence. That will not happen until one is shot and the carcass brought in,” Kirlin said.
