Oregon, Canadian art to be displayed Four exhibitions will be dis played for the public at the Univer sity Museum of Art beginning with a reception Sunday and continu ing through April 2. “Canadian Landscapes” will be displayed to represent current art movements and the vastness of Canada. The contemporary art will range from abstract to realistic works. The exhibit is a gift from the Cul tural Affairs Division of the De partment of External Affairs of Canada. The Eugene Parks and Recreation Department has pro vided additional funds. The work of Thom Hacker of the University’s architecture depart ment will be featured in the sec ond exhibit, “Earth, Stone and Wood.” V The display includes wood and clay models, pencil, chalk and charcoal drawings, along with black and white photos of four pro jects designed between 1967 and 1977. Richard Garfield also of ar chitecture department collabo rated on the project. Color Xerox prints by Roberta Wilson, formerly of Eugene, will be on display in the focus gallery. The prints were made by experi mental use of the commercial Xerox machine. The fourth exhibit will display color prints by Henry Holmes Smith at the Oregon Gallery. In cluded are color dye prints of “re fraction drawings." This camera less photography depicts themes of both everyday life and the myth of ancient legend. J Students sign miners petition More than 200 University stu dents have signed a petition sup porting the miner’s strike in east ern United States. The petition will be sent to the Miners Right to Strike Committee in West Virginia. The support petition was pas sed out at last week’s showing of “Harlan County, U.S.A.” by the Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade. The document states student support for the miners’ right to strike over local grievances during the life of their contracts and of full restoration, increase and guaran tee of all pensions and medical benefits. The petition continues to claim power shortages and increased air pollution from the use of “dirt ier” coal is the sole responsibility of the coal companies tailing to comply with miner demands. Pres. Carter is currently looking for a way to terminate the record 78-day strike by 160,000 coal workers. Freshman wins raffle, Oregon/UCLA tickets Dean Huggins, a freshman from Portland, has won an athle tic department raffle for two free tickets to the Oregon-UCLA game Saturday. Athletic Dir. John Caine provided the tickets to encourage University students to pick up their winter term registration verifi cations. Although all students were eligible for the Feb. 6 drawing, only those who had picked up their verifications by Feb. 17 had a chance to win the tickets. Names of three students were drawn ahead of Huggins, but they had not picked up their verifications. As in past terms, only about 50 percent of the student body has bothered to pick up their verifications, according to Assist. Registrar Chris Munoz. Without verification sheets, students cannot be certain they are correctly registered for the courses and grade options. The sheets are still available at the registrar’s office at Oregon Hall. Munoz refused to release the names of those students who would have won the raffle had they picked up their verification sheets, saying it would cause them “embarrassment and anger.” Huggans “was surprised to say the least.” The registrar’s office called him Tuesday at 8 a m. “At first I thought it was a prank, I mean who would call at 8 to tell you you’ve won a raffle.” Later on in the day he remembered the promotion to pick up the class verifications. He plans to attend the game, “now I’m just figuring out who to ask.
