Chalmers spoke informally with students Wednesday afternoon, when a panel discussion scheduled with University affirma tive action officials to take place for lack of an audience. Since August, federal law has required all University programs be accessible to handicapped students. While all classrooms and facilities need not accommo date handicapped students, pro grams and departments as a whole must be accessible. The University has yet to meet that obligation, Chalmers says. Science labs and the School of Journalism have been assumed closed to the handicapped and Chalmers says these "traditional limitations have cheated aware ness" so that those programs con tinue to be inaccessible. Shirley Wilson, office of student service's director, agrees that law requires readjustments of class room assignments and has helped to coordinate these ad justments when students have asked for help. For problems of greater sub stance, Chalmers suggests stu dents contact his office. In the Office of Student Advocacy's (OSA) budget for next year, Chalmers says he hopes to include a part-time advocate posi tion for handicapped accessibility and discrimination problems. Chalmers says it’s also possible money could be transferred from the OSA s research and de velopment fund if the workload justified the added expense. Now, he can hardly wait. Sex is something most people need (Pine Valley seems to have a shortage of honest sex, though) and David Thornton is no excep tion. A couple months ago I men tioned Edna had a body that would look best on its back and David better get the divorce before he took advantage of it. He didn’t make it. We didn’t see it, actually, but last week as the cameras went dark, David and Edna were sitting on the bed ready to go to it. Trust Edna to use the encounter for ev erything she can.
