The third annual dance be gins Saturday at 4 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m. Sunday. “At least 48 dancers right now have signed up says Malarkey, although she adds, “we’ll probably have about 55.” Malarkey says “most dan cers are worth (pledged for) about $5 an hour.” She noted, however, “lotsof people are still running around getting last min ute pledges.’’ She hopes to net at least $2,500. Money from what Malarkey called “the most successful fund raising thing we've ever done’’ will go toward keeping the ESCAPE office running and obtaining more volunteer re source materials, among other things. In the midst of the marathon, a public dance will take place, with music provided by Windows (formerly the Schwebke Brothers). The open dance will run from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and admission is $1.50. Marathon dancers will get aboi.t a five-minute break every hour during the 10-hour ordeal, except when the band’s playing. “We take breaks when they take breaks,” says Malarkey. ESCAPE will operate a re covery room across from the ballroom with foot massagers, punch and protein drinks. Middle East situation told By JOHN LUDWIG 01 the Emerald In a speech delivered last night in the EMU, entitled “Palestine and the Current Middle East Status”, Hasaa Alnoti, UCLA pro fessor and author, described Egypt as a oountry ruled by a “petit bourgeois class which has turned from an ally of the masses to an enemy of the masses.” "This has led to the increasing antagonisms of the Egyptian mas ses — and out of fear of this an tagonism, the petit bourgeois re gime has come to terms with the Zionist imperialist camp, and has joined the repressive apparatus which is set up by U.S. im perialism to tighten control of the middle class,” said Alnoti. “So what is taking place,” con tinued Alnoti, “is an attempt on the part of the U.S. imperialism and its allies to do away with the Arab lib eration movement. As a result the Arab liberation movement has taken a dangerous turn that is em bodied in the Palestinian resis tance and which has erupted the Arab world for the last 12 years. I believe that the unholy alliance’ (speaking of the Arab states) will meet with the same fate as the holy alliance’, which was con cluded in 1815 in Europe between European kings to prevent the threat of revolution.” Alnoti also discussed the three phases which Palestine has gone through in recent years. Phases one," said Alnoti, “was the empty ing of the Palestine’s Arab popul tion. Phase two was the legitima zation of colonization of the Zionist states by admission into the Uni ted Nations. Phase three, which is now underway is an attempt to get the Arabs to legitimize the coloni zation of Palestine by U.N. by re cognizing it as a sovereign state.” West coast schools probed WASHINGTON (AP) — A Washington lobbyist has told the FBI he gave Rep. Daniel Flood $1,000 cash in what he under stood was a payment for Flood’s aid in helping several West Coast trade schools win accreditation, court records show. Deryl Fleming, who acted as a lobbyist for the trade schools, gave the statement to the FBI on May 23, 1977, while under protective custody and cooperating with the federal government in several cases. Flood is under investigation by federal grand juries here and in Philadelphia.
