Police look for killer WALTON (AP) — Between 50 and 60 authorities continues to search a densely wooded area near here Tuesday night after someone reported seeing a man who matched the description of a suspect sought in the weekend shooting of a Springfield cab driver. George Chortos, administrative assistant for the Lane County sheriff’s department, said a wit ness reported seeing a man early Tuesday afternoon. The man fled into the woods when he was sighted. Walton is a small community 24 miles west of Eugene. The man was seen about five miles east of where the body of 23-year-old John Caves was found in his taxi cab early Satur day. He had been shot in the head twice with a large-caliber hand- f gun. The sheriff’s department and i Oregon State Police set up road blocks on Oregon 126 in the Walton area, and sheriff’s deputies, re serves and other officers used ] flashlights to continue the search Tuesday night. “They’re just hoping if it is the guy, he’s been out there long enough something’s going to happen," Chortos said. Earlier Tuesday, Sheriff Dave Burks said he expects to identify a suspect in the case soon. “I’m optimistic that we will iden tify the perpetrator of this crime,” Burks said.
