Music student wins award For the second consecutive year, Ronald de Wolfe has cap tured first place honors in the Northwest National Music Teachers Association composi tion contest. The University student hails from Oak Harbor, Wash., and graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1972. De Wolfe won the contest with his original work entitled “Bagatel les,” written for B flat clarinet and violin. Nudging out entries from eight regional states, his composi tion now enters national competi Stitchery workshop offered Barbara Kensler, a Eugene textile artist, will be teaching a Soft Sculpture-Stitchery workshop at Maude Kerns Art Center this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $14. Kensler plans to introduce students to unusual approaches to fabric and form using various techniques of sectional padding, surface quilting, wrapping, applique and found object embellishment. Registration must be made at the Art Center before 5 p.m. this Friday. Enrollment is limited so early registration is recommended. A materials list will be available at registration. tkxv Outcome of the judging is ex pected to be announced within two months. De Wolfe accomplished the same feat in 1975. He won the regional title then with his piece, “Spiritual Poems." Numerous other awards mark de Wolfe's musical career He now totals nine scholarships, in cluding the Ruth Lorraine Close Award to attend the University this year. The musician received his bachelor of music in 1976 from Washington State University. Jan 20-21, 1977 r All my children By GLEN OZONEWOOD Of the Emerald It seems as if Kitty and Line can t get a break Having just barely recovered from the news that Kitty s 'mother was actually an imposter, they faced yet another crisis Monday; Kitty mysteriously went blind Though she regained her vision later in the week, the experience was a frightening one After discussing the news about how she'd been hood winked, Kitty decided to hunt the woman down and bring her back to Pine Valley to live with her Unusual considering what the woman, who we now know as Mrs Lum. did to them But as Kitty explains it "I love that woman just as much as if she were my own mother " Back to the blindness. Line had just returned from Mona's, where he was attempt ing to get information on the location of Mrs Lum and he greeted Kitty in his usual charming manner As he began to sit down Kitty asked him to turn on the lights, which struck him as a little weird since the lights were already on But then, through the magic of the television camera, the audience began to see the scene through Kitty s eyes From this vantage point Line became blurry and at times seemed to disappear altogether A quick call to Joe, and he rushed to Kitty's side and took her back to the hospital. Slowly Kitty s vision returned, and the incident seemed to have a happy ending. The obvious expla nation is that Kitty s blindness was a psychosomatic reaction to the stress she s been under, but it might not be that simple Given the reign hard luck and bad breaks have over Kitty's life, it wouldn't be surprising to find out she s suffering from a tumor or something. Her sister-in-law Ann isn't having it so good either Her baby Beth has been given more extensive tests and she seems to be much more retarded than anyone first believed Dr Karas and others are talking about putting Beth in an institution, an idea Ann opposed vehemently when Paul brought it up The thought of trusting the care of her daughter to someone else isn’t pleasant to Ann, and Beth s situation is causing a lot of strain on her and Paul's marriage A child is threatening another marriage Little Phillip will be leaving the hospital soon and he's let it be known he doesn t intend to live with Phil and Tara. Instead he plans to live with Chuck. It's time little Phil was told that Phillip is his real father The longer people continue to lie to the kid the harder it's going to be on him when he learns the truth, as he's sure to do. But things weren t all sad in Pine Valley this week Nick, the casual, suave devil that he is, asked Dr Karas (Christine to her friends) to have dinner with him It was about time she got paired up with someone Elsewhere around town, now that everyone knows about Phoebe hinng Mrs Lum, her pool-house guest Benny can t use the fact to blackmail Phoebe anymore It was his knowledge of Phoebe s dirty deeds that got him a place at the Tyler mansion in the first place But now the tide has turned As the show closed Tuesday, Benny was being outfitted for a chauffeur s uniform and it looks like if Benny stays on at the Tyler s it will be on Phoebe s terms, not his.
