Historians slate fall conference “History and Public School Today" will be the subject of a one-day conference in the EMU, Saturday. The conference will serve as the annual fall meeting of the Oregon and Southwest Washington Conference of His torians. Program features include a lun cheon address by Verne Duncan, Oregon state superintendent of public instruction; a 10:30 a m. panel discussion on history and social studies curriculum changes moderated by Thomas McClin tock of Oregon State University; and an exhibit of early history text books. Jail bond levy story amended Contrary to a report in the Oct. 20 issue of the Emerald, the Lane County Jail proposal will create a 206-person capacity jail, and will include work-education release programs. The proposal, an $8.9 million bond levy, which will be before the voters in November’s election, calls for a new building to be attached to the existing jail. The new facility will house three dormitory cells of 12-person capacity each, a new visitors center, a mental health unit, an outdoor exercise area and new kitchen facilities.
