c .€( al Ed college fills dean position Richard Hersh will become as sociate dean of teacher education in the University College of Educa tion on July 1. He is currently chairman of secondary education at the University of Toledo, Ohio. “The faculty and I feel ex tremely fortunate in having been able to attract Dick Hersh to the college," said Dean Robert Gil berts. “His work in teacher educa tion at the University of Toledo has achieved national recognition.” The position of associate dean of teacher education was created in 1974 when the College of Edu cation was reorganized. The duties have been performed in the interim by Dean Gilberts and Robert Schwarz, director of the Center on Human Development, while a search was conducted. Hersh, 33, has been at Toledo since 1968. His secondary teach ing experiences have included social studies teaching in the Win chester and Lexington high schools in Massachusetts. In 1973, he directed the Robin son School Project, which indi vidualized instruction in an inner city junior high school. The project was funded by the Ohio State De partment of Education. The same year, he received a Title III grant to research individualizing secondary school instruction. He visited elementary and sec ondary schools in the Soviet Union in 1970. Hersh is the author of three books and more than a dozen arti cles in professional journals. He holds a doctorate of education from Boston University and bachelor’s and master s degrees from Syracuse University. Hersh was among 225 appli cants considered for the position. In his new position, Hersh’s salary will be $28,000. The Emerald regrets the error. ‘Feedback’ eyes TV news "What's Wrong with Television News” will be the subject for a half-hour television "Feedback” at 7:30 p.m. today on the Oregon Education and Public Broadcast ing System. Originating live from the Uni versity, the program will feature host Vern Mueller and guests John Hulteng, dean of the Univer sity School of Journalism and Diane McCarthy, news assign ment editor and reporter for K VAL television in Eugene. Hulteng just recently published a book on the ethics of journalism and McCarthy was recently pre sented an award from the Oregon Education Association for out standing media coverage of edu cation. Mueller is the general manager of the Oregon Association of Broadcasters and is an anchor man for Eugene television station KEZI’s 11 p m. news. The program offers the oppor tunity for viewers to telephone their questions and concerns di rectly to guest panelists. Series probes local control Neighborhood power and community control will be the focus of this week's part of the “Livability for Oregon's Future’’ series. David Morns of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance will present a lecture on "Neighborhood Power Nationwide" tonight at 8 in Room 167 EMU. Volunteers from the Community Health and Education Center will participate in a panel discussion on community control of health care at 12:30 p m. today in the EMU Forum room.
