Child center sets program A free treatment program will begin in mid-April at the University’s Child Study Center for parents of children with be havioral problems. The 10-week program will use educational training to help par ents change their children’s at titudes and behavior. Weekly ses sions, arranged at parents’ con venience, will be held with the educational trainers. “We currently are seeking chil dren between the ages of 4 and 10 who display active behavior prob lems in the family setting," ex plains Suzanne Gaughen, re search associate. "Such problems would include destructiveness, non compliance, negativism, temper tantrums, disobedience, fighting, or excessive demands for atten tion.” Parents will be taught to ob serve carefully their child’s be havior and to react more effec tively to the child. In addition to sessions with par ents, the staff will visit participants' homes to spend time with the chil dren. Parents interested in the pro gram should contact Ms. Gaughen at the Child Study Center, 686-4960, from 9 to 5 weekdays, by April 16. Trousdale, as sociated with the Smithsonian In stitution, will be the lecturer of the seminar entitled "Art and Ar chaeology of Chinese Turkistan.” The seminar will meet daily in the afternoons for two weeks (April 26 through May 7) and may be taken for two hours of art his tory credit through the University's nonmatriculant program. Film features grad program Graduate programs and Uni versity foreign students will be fea tured in a U.S. Information Agency (USIA) film. The film was shot on campus Friday, April 2. The University is one of five in stitutions to be featured in the film, which will be distributed to foreign embassies so that it can be viewed by local students who are interested in attending an Ameri can college or university for graduate study. Hugh Foster, USIA representa tive who coordinated the filming on campus, said the University I was chosen because of the high | ratings given to its graduate prog 9 rams by the American Council on Education. -...et al Eco-program to be held today The first in a series of programs under the general title "Livability and Oregon’s Future" will take place today at the University. The theme for this week’s events will be "The Business of Ecology." A featured guest will be Richard Barnet of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington D.C. Bar net will participate in a panel at 3:30 in the EMU Forum Room on "Oregon as a Banana Republic." Other participants will be Dan Gddrich, University political sci ence professor, Tom Bates, editor of Oregon Times Magazine, and John Markhoff of the Pacific Northwest Research Center. Barnet will also speak tonight on "Global Corporations and the Environment" at 8 p.m. in Room 167 EMU. Boyd to speak at dinner University Pres. William Boyd will be the guest speaker at this year's annual dinner meeting of Goodwill Industries of Lane County. The dinner meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Willamette Room of the Valley River Inn. The public is in vited. Dinner tickets will be availa ble at the door for $7 per person.
